The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), Hon. Wahab Akanni Owokoniran, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to partner with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in advancing research and professional standards in logistics and transport management.
Owokoniran made the declaration on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, while delivering a goodwill message at the 2025 CILT National Conference and Annual General Meeting held in Victoria Island, Lagos.
He commended CILT for its continuous role in providing a platform for thought leadership, policy dialogue, and professional development in Nigeria’s transport and logistics sector.
Speaking on the theme “Enhancing Logistics and Transport for Sustainable Blue Economy in Nigeria”, Owokoniran described it as timely, especially as the nation works toward economic diversification and sustainable use of maritime and inland water resources.
“The blue economy presents a new frontier for inclusive growth and innovation. To achieve this, Nigeria needs strong logistics systems, efficient transportation networks, and multidisciplinary collaboration,” he said.
He highlighted FUTD’s role in supporting this national vision by producing a new generation of transport professionals through research, training, and innovation.
Owokoniran expressed the university’s readiness to collaborate with CILT and relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Blue Economy, to enhance professional development and academic exchange in transport and logistics.
The event, which runs until Friday, October 24, 2025, is also being attended by FUTD Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, and External Council Members Prof. S.G. Odewumi and ACG Abbas Sule (Rtd).
